Areal view of Evan's Creek Haskap Orchard in its infancy.
Doug has known for sometime that his soil was special. He has been steadily supplying the community with his topsoil for the past 5 years. It was time to find a crop of his own. The Lakes District's cool climate discouragse many crops from high and productive yields. A few years in, Doug got wind of a berry that was native to the Boreal Forest and newly developed by the University of Saskatchewan's Agriculture Fruit Program http://www.fruit.usask.ca/haskap.html. His research brought him to Axel and Doris at High Mountain Farm in Salmon Arm. Seeing the orchard and learning about this amazing new berry, Doug decided that this was his new crop, HASKAP BERRRIES!
Indigo Gem- This is a small berry (average 1.29grms) with sweet/tangy flavour.
Aurora- This berry is larger than the indigo and has a sweet flavor. Aurora also aids in pollination.
Berry Blue- Berry Blue is an early season producer. It has a sweet/tart flavour.
Doug Price has lived in the Lakes District almost his entire life. He came with his family from Oregon as a child. His love of nature and gardening brought him to his current acreage.
